What Does a TDS Meter Actually Measure?

How it works: A TDS meter doesn’t actually "see" individual chemicals. Instead, it measures the electrical conductivity of the water. Because minerals and salts are made of charged ions, they conduct electricity. The meter reads this conductivity and converts it into a parts-per-million (ppm) reading.

Expecting a consumer TDS meter to find forever chemicals is like trying to measure the width of a human hair using a highway mileage marker. The tool simply isn't built for that level of microscopic precision.
